The first nonagenarian monarch of the United Kingdom

Ever since I was a boy, I've had a certain affinity or appreciation for monarchy and, with much of the world, looked with admiration to Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of the Commonwealth.

More than anything else, it is the dignity with which Her Majesty has always conducted herself, in times both joyful and sorrowful, in carrying out her duty that is hers by consequence of her birth. Though the majority of us are not destined for such a lofty office, we would still do well to imitate her grace and decorum.

In honor of Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday today, Buckingham Palace has released a few recent photographs of the Queen, including this one:

Though the above photograph is certainly an excellent one, my favorite of the celebratory photographs is this one:

Today, Queen Elizabeth II has become the United Kingdom's first nonagenarian monarch. May God bless Her Majesty and all the people of her realm! Happy birthday, Your Majesty!
