Iraq will not require Christian children to convert to Islam

Ten days ago I shared with you the troubling news that a proposed piece of legislation before the Iraqi parliament would require Christian children to convert to Islam if their father converted or if their mother married a Muslim man.

Three days ago, the Iraqi parliament retracted that portion of the law. His Beatitude Louis Raphael I Sako, Chaldean Catholic Patriarch of Babylon, said he is "deeply satisfied" with the decision.

Let us be sure to raise a prayer of thanksgiving to Almighty God for this good news amidst so much painful news.
