Is a war in Syria just?

Monsignor Charles Pope recently took and "sober and serious" look at the President's proposed action in Syria in the light of the Church's teaching on just war, a post that is both brief and well-worth reading.

Given that one of the requirements for a just war is a serious prospect of success (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2309), I can find no justification for the President's plan to launch a few missiles and be done.  There can be no prospect of success in such a plan.

Please, if you have not read Pope Francis' homily that he preached at the Vigil of Prayer for Peace, do so today and continue to pray for peace!
