In the Holy See's response to the Cloyne Report which documented the sad state of clerical abuse in Ireland, it was proposed that the Holy See and the Irish government might engage in a fruitful and constructive dialogue to "work together to ensure that the Church and, indeed, society in general will always be safe for children and young people."
The Irish government has accepted this proposal.
This is welcome news indeed.
