Edwards on America

From the Presidential hopeful, John Edwards:

"There's a lot of America that's Christian. I would not describe us, though, on the whole, as a Christian nation," he told the Web site Beliefnet. "I guess the word 'Christian' is what bothers me, even though I'm a Christian. I think that America is a nation of faith." [more]

Of all things by which to be bothered...

  1. In his defense, it would make me uncomfortable to describe a nation as "Christian" or "Muslim" or "Jewish" or anything like that- look at all of the bloodshed that occurs when people label themselves that way.

(Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Palestine, Serbia, Croatia, etc).

But maybe that's the 5 1/2 of public, liberal arts education seeping out of me.

    :-)

  3. I agree with you, Thom. In any event, Mr. Edwards' words were very poorly chosen.
