Eucharistic desires

During the Communion procession at Mass on Sunday, I couldn’t help but overview a toddler in the line next to me.

As her family approached the Eucharist, the young girl looked up at her mom and asked, “Can I get one?” As I heard the question I smiled at mom and she smiled back. It was one of those very touching moments.

After reflecting on the small girl’s simple request that she surely did not fully understand, I cannot help but wonder: what if each of us approached the Eucharist with the same simple and humble request?
